In recent years, Phuket has emerged as the centre of Thailand’s marine industry and has witnessed rapid growth in related businesses, from marine engineering and services to charter companies, marinas and shipyards to rigging, sail-making and repairs. It is estimated that there are over 400 firms directly involved in Thailand’s yachting industry – generating almost 6 million Baht in annual revenue – 30,000 licensed captains and crew members and more than 800 permanently berthed boats.

Thailand is also home to a dozen large shipyards with a production of 5,000 – 180,000 DWT and even more medium shipyards with a production capacity of up to 3,500 GRT. And, as recent Government regulations aimed at developing Thailand’s superyacht industry take effect, it is expected that this will further positively impact the country’s flourishing pleasure boating industry.
