Navigating Thailand’s Murky Undercurrents

A quick word to the wise. Although great efforts have been made to encourage boat owners to come to Thailand, reliable information from official sources are hard to come by. The Thailand Marine Guide strongly recommends that captains and / or boat owners contact verified and reputable yacht management companies and yacht agencies before their arrival to avoid any unwelcome surprises.

Superyacht Charter License

In 2022, the Thai Government introduced the new Foreign Charter license, which will allow foreign-flagged yachts of 30 metres and above to operate charters within Thai waters, without having to pay the VAT of the value of their yacht. Instead, superyachts will only have to pay VAT from the revenue it generates during its stay in Thai waters. This is a huge game changer and will surely generate massive growth for the numerous businesses and employees in the Thai marine tourism industry.

The new licenses are issued by the Ministry of Transport and can be applied through various agents.
